Formed in 2007 by guitarist Dave Phillips, Opus Nex are a 5-piece heavy metal band based in Shrewsbury. Capturing the balance between melody and brutality, they are a powerful band to listen to, but are even more stunning to experience live. Taking inspiration from a variety of places – Iron Maiden, Slayer, Cradle of Filth, Motorhead, Death – Opus Nex’s main strength comes from the diverse personal influences that each member puts into the band; as well as their ability to gel, and perform, as a single unstoppable force. Combining the dark, twisted melodies of gothic/black metal with the harsh urgency of thrash, and the epic fury of progressive death metal, Opus Nex are loud, intense and dangerously absorbing.
Pissed off with the disappointingly poor metal scene, particularly in the midlands, Opus Nex set to rewrite the rulebook and shake rock to its foundations. Two years after its inception they have earned a following that is growing steadily in strength and in number. With the release of their debut EP, ‘A Violent Death’, 2009 is a time to make the rest of the world take notice.
