GOTHS CAN BE SMART!
I'd like to prove or bring back the idea that Goths can be cultured intellectuals who are opinionated, well-read, aware of world and subculture issues, appreciative of Goth(ic) history in its musical, literary, architectural, artistic etc. forms, who understand themselves and love and embrace their dark side. I think it is a shame that a social networking site set aside for those who pique an interest in "Gothic & Industrial Culture" seems to have been overrun by those who show no inkling of interest in Goth! The Goth of today should not be seen as merely a tryhard artist/musician/designer/model/photographer/makeup artist/hairdresser/independent craftperson/DJ/internet celebrity/walking billboard. While Goth is as much about creativity, the sheer number of aforementioned personalities have unconsciously formed for all Goths a tragic generalisation: that Goths are largely uninterested in higher education or deeper thought, in favour of the former, more shallow pursuits. Some of us want to be taken seriously, and I lament that in today's atmosphere it feels as if we can't show all our colours because of these other preconceptions.
Other than that, I like: manga, victorian/medieval/cybergoth/lolita fashion, theatre, ballet, opera, Ancient Egyptian everything, philosophising, body modification, Portal/Portal 2, drinking blood, dominating, bondage, social/political activism, drawing in notebook margins, poetry, Impressionist paintings, old world maps/books, Pokémon...the list continues. I'm shy as all hell in person, but always up for a chat online.. =] And the best excercise is laughter!
For the love of Cthulhu, give the Goths a chance here >_<
