I remember when wolfsheim first started being played at nyc
goth clubs in the mid 90's, with their club hit "the sparrows
and the nightingales". Then after their spectators album was
released, they became way more popular, with their instant classic
"once in a lifetime", which still gets frequent clubplay.
Not to mention their other great singles besides those big club hits.
The first time I ever heard wolfsheim, my girlfriend at the time
was really into them, and I thought they sounded horrible,
because its really mellow synthpop music. but after listening to
them a few times, i really started liking them a lot.
so i guess their sound is something that is more appealing to girls,
because its very soft and mellow, the songs are usually pretty slow
and the vocals are low sounding. but, if you can appreciate
this style, it really is great. wolfsheim is one of the first
synthpop bands to really get noticed.
upon listening to this album for the first time, I was just really
not in the mood to hear this type of music at the time, and i thought,
"oh, another typical slow wolfsheim album." but, upon listening
to the album a second time when i was in a more calm mood,
i really started appreciating it, and i think this album is
definitely up to par with the rest of their albums.
just like the rest of their albums, this is the type of music
you listen to when ur sitting at home with the lights off, just
relaxing, or perhaps because you're depressed and want to hear something
soft.
as for club tracks, two particular songs stick out on this album,
"i find you're gone", which is a more upbeat song, and has a
catchy melody. i particularly love the lyrics on this song, its about
a girl that is gone when he wakes up, and he finds that he's glad
that she's gone.
also, the track "Wundervoll", which seems to be the most upbeat song
on the album. the lyrics on this one
are in german, which might make people not like it as much, but I actually
find that in pretty much all of wolfsheim's music, while I enjoy the
english songs because I can understand them, the singer's voice is always
better sounding on the german songs.
overall, wolfsheim fans will definitely be pleased with this album.
as i said, wolfsheim's sound is not for everyone, but if you can appreciate
this type of music, they are very talented at what they do.

This is one of Wolfsheim's best albums. If you like synthpop, you will
absolutely love Wolfsheim. Wolfsheim is not for you if you only like hard,
fast ebm/industrial rock. Wolfsheim is a favorite at goth/industrial clubs,
with their very talented, melodic synthpop sound. The track "Sparrows and the
Nightingales" off this album is a world wide goth club hit, with its addictive
danceable synth beat. All of the songs on this album are great and emotionally
touching. This band is from germany, but most songs by them are in english, so
you can appreciate the great lyrics.

This german synth pop band is a favorite in their home country,
and they are one of the most talented synth pop bands around today.
Spectators is their latest album, and it is filled with deep emotional
sounds that will touch your soul. This album give me a relaxing
happy feeling which always puts me in a good mood. The song
"Once in a lifetime" is a big hit in the goth/industrial clubs in
new york city, particularly at downtime (formerly the batcave) and
the pyramid. This song just makes you want to get up and dance.
It's a surprise that wolfsheim isn't more well known band among
the goth/industrial scene, but the few that know about wolfsheim
definitely cherish this band. -reviewed by jet 2000 |
