Sabotage - VampireFreaks.com

Artist: Sabotage
Album: Concrete

Isabelle Gernand (vocals) Marc Werner (programmer, lyrics, and harsh vocals) and Tim Kroker (percussionist) make up the German trio, know to the world as Sabotage. This trio have been writing and recording dance floor friendly synth-poppy music since the early 90’s. Having worked with such bands as Front 242, KMFDM, Aghast View, and Apoptygma Berzerk, Sabotage has become one the great bands of our generation. With images of erotiscm weaved into there music, Sabotage has gained the reputation of being “one of the sexiest, and most powerful groups in the currant scene”, as quoted by a long time fan. There 1999 release “concrete” is the first Sabotage disc available in North America. This “Inception Records” release is a blend of older songs and new remixes by acts such as “front 242”and “flesh field”. The blend of harsh male vocals, rhythmic female vocals, and a multi-layered soundscape make Sabotage very appealing to a wide range of electronic music fans. I think this is a pretty good album. It is a very diverse piece of work. Songs like “hearts and bombs”, the flesh field remix of “getaway”, and “reliable” have a really hardcore groove to them, while songs like the apoptygma berzerk remix of “who am I” have a very synth- poppy dance floor sound. I really enjoyed the third track on the disc, “les fleurs de mal.” The song has an old school nitzer ebb type sound to it, and its sung in French, witch I think is pretty cool for a German band that sings the majority of their songs in english to do! All and all, I think this disc is worth buying if you have a few extra bucks to spend. It may not become one of the legendary industrial cd’s of our generation, but it will give you a lot of enjoyment. The impression that I got from this disc is that Sabotage has yet to hit there musical peak and are still growing and experimenting as a band. Though they have not released anything in the last three years, I expect to hear a lot more from this band. I give this disc a 7 / 10 rating. Check it out and I hope you enjoy it!
