Artist: Neurotic Fish Album: Les Chansons Neurotiques |

Neurotic Fish has been my favorite band to listen to lately, and I was
anticipating this latest release. Their sound is highly addictive
ebm/future-pop music, with high bpm's, clear, crisp vocals, and perfectly
timed samples. I had this CD in my car stereo for a good month. Neorotic Fish
is slowly gaining popularity, and this CD will definitely help them gain some
recognition. Here's the track-by-track review: 01 - Startup: this is a short intro track, starts off with machine sounds and samples, flows into the second track. 02- Reinvent the Pain: a fast paced dancey ebm track. great for club play. 03- Waste: another great track with moving vocals and high-bpm melodies 04- Prostitute: my favorite track off the album, starts out soft, with a sample that says "electronic body music is dead" and then gains momentum to a poppie fluffy beat with catchy multi-layered vocals. 05- Wake Me Up: this track was previously released as a maxi-single, and also on the "Sushi" EP. This is a great track and a popular club favorite. 06- Modulator: starts out with a soft melodic synth line, then comes in with a thumping drum beat. has melodic vocals. has a few climaxes in the song, which makes it more exciting, but the vocals get a bit repetitive. 07- Breakdown: a slower, down-temp song, nice to hear when you're in a relaxed mood. 08- Darkness/Influence: another good track. has some trumpet-sounding tunes which actually sound good with the song 09- Stop & Go: a slow, metlodic instrumental song, with the exception of the words "stop...go" chanted in the background. very different from the rest of the songs, and sounds simplistic, yet somehow i find myself singing "stop...go" to myself after listening to this song, as it just sticks in my head 10- It's not me: a more aggressive, fast track. keeps repeating the same line in the vocals, but its still a great track. 11- Inverse: a slow, metlodic ballad. good to sit back and smoke a bowl to. 12- Velocity N2: this is the bonus track, a remix of the popular "Velocity" track. i like the original version a lot better, but its good for a bonus track. this is Neurotic Fish's first domestic US release, brought to you by Ferret records,
and in the liner notes it says
"this compilation is dedicated to our U.S. fans". It's basically a combination
of the "Wake me up" EP, "Velocity" single, and "M.F.A.P.L" single, all put on one
CD, for a total of 13. This is a perfect CD for anybody who hasn't checked out
Neorotic Fish before, and it's a great deal for the average fan, as you're getting
2 singles and an EP for the price of one domestic US release.
I love neurotic fish and this CD has gotten a lot of play-time whenever I dj, or just
listening to it in the car. Favorite tracks on here are "Wake Me UP! (Club Edit)",
"Care", "Velocity", and "M.F.A.P.L. (Intelligent Tribal Freak Mix)".
Neurotic Fish's sound is EBM / Future-pop, high BPM dance music, with some synthpop
influence. they're definitely one of my favorite bands at the moment, and i highly
recommend them to anyone to check them out.
