Icon of coil follows up their amazing debut, "serenity of the devil", with another great
album. Very similar to their previous album, has the same dancey industrial tunes.
also known as "future-pop" to some people. having recently seen them in toronto
at synthpop goes the world, i must
say that it was amazing to see them perform these tracks live. it was my second time
seeing them in concert, but it seems that they have matured and become more secure with
themselves and able to put on a very high energy performance.
all the tracks on this album are really good, with the exception of "everything is real",
which seems to be a more mellow, solemn song, and i just dont like it very much.
the two tracks that really stick out as amazing tracks are "access and amplify", and
"other half of me". these songs totally kick ass. overally, this is a great
album, has the same style as their previous album, but they seem to experiment slightly
with varying their style in a couple of tracks. it's nice that they still have the
same sound, as they're getting more popular and getting the recognition they
deserve.

This industrial dance band is really fucking good. Their sound is very
similar to Apoptygma Berzerk and VNV Nation. The lyrics are very
meaningful, which makes me appreciate the album much more.
In the first song, "activate", the singer chants "its not a phase" in
the chorus, and it just gives me that warm feeling inside because
i can relate. The album is very club oriented, with great vocals
and danceable industrial sounds.
My favorite song off this album is "former self". This song is a great song which I recently requested at
a local club and everyone had a great time dancing to it. Another
favorite off this album is "floorkiller". This is a more club-oriented
song, and I've heard it played at the batcave in nyc a few times.
The electronic melodies on this album are very upbeat and club-friendly
and sound very much like Apoptygma Berzerk's "Welcome to Earth" album.
But don't let the similarities fool you. Icon of Coil definitely has
their own unique sound and every song on this album is great.
