when Hanzel und Gretyl came out with
"transmissions from uranus" in '97, I thought it was such a great album.
they had a cool cyber look going on, and you could tell that they
had a great sence of humor, as their songs didn't really make any sence,
but they sounded good, with a fast industrial sound to them.
After years of not hearing from Hanzel und Gretyl, here comes their
latest release. I have to say that I was suprised by their new sound,
its a lot heavier and guitar driven, almost hard-rock sounding at times,
reminiscent of some of kmfdm's harder sounds, or some of dope's music.
the vocals seem to be mostly in german, with some english vocals thrown in.
judging from their new sound and the album artwork, they seem to be
trying to convey a new image of being some hardcore german band like
rammstein, but aren't these guys from nyc?
i dont know, seems pretty confusing to me.
I can see this new album appealing to the mtv generation, its
very rock sounding, with aggressive vocals, and I'm sure it will sell
really well if its marketed properly. but compared to their
more electronic / industrial sounding "transmissions from uranus"
album, I found this album quite disappointing.
but, there's still a lot of talent behind it, it's simply not
the type of music I'd like to listen to lately.
