assemblage 23's newest release, a follow-up to their hit album "failure". this continues with their
great future-pop sound, and has some great club-tracks on it. you can tell that tom shear
is really expanding in his musical knowledge, as a few tracks on here are simply amazing.
suprisingly, this cd has some
slow songs on it, which is very unlike assemblage 23's previous releases. i don't really care
for the slow songs as much as the more upbeat, dance-oriented songs, but overall, this is a
fantastic album, and its nice to see tom shear is experimenting with different sounds.
track-by-track analysis:
opened - a pumping upbeat song, starts out with a cool female sample saying "abre los ojos, open your eyes".
this song is a great way to start out the album, with a great future-pop / ebm sound.
drive - another great future-pop track, with an addictive chorus that stays in your head. one of the best songs on the album
blindhammer - another good track, has some quality samples, but seems to drag on a bit at times
cocoon - *gasps* its a slow, mellow song by assemblage 23. i often find myself skipping this song,
simply because im usually in the mood to hear the more faster, upbeat songs.
document - the current single off the album, came out as maxi-single before the album was released,
(i do recommend the maxi-single, it has some great remixes). this song is definitely a great
song and an instant club hit.
fallen down - another good future-pop track.
horizon - another slow track, with some cool vocal distortions in it. soothing, and a
good song, although i do prefer the faster, more upbeat songs.
light - a good dancey song, as expected from assemblage 23. not one of my faves,
though
maps of reality - an upbeat, more aggressive song. more aggro-industrial style,
but still pop-sounding. a good song
lullaby - the final track, a really slow, melodic track. in all honestly, this song usually
just bores me, but its a good track to listen to when you're feeling down.
