I personally couldn't care who gets featured for what. Leave it as it is, I care much more about friend updates then whoever is getting featured for whatever.
I chose featured member/cult. I don't like seeing friends statuses on the main page at all, but I think top journals is a bad idea too since it's mostly whiney people.

i don't know weather it would be possible or not but in my opinion it would be pretty awesome if there would be a selection of what each person wants to see. okay, well, that isn't a really good sentence. what i mean is that there should be options. perhaps above the box. options like 'journals'; 'friend updates'; 'featured member'; 'featured cult'; 'top status updates'
or whatever you think would be reasonable to put there. and when you click on it, the box would show it. so we don't get to see one thing, but we can choose to see what we like to see.
i'm not quite certain, weather i made myself clear enough or not, but hopefully you get the idea.
also, i don't know, weather it would be possible to make with the codes and all, but well, these are my thoughts
