New Downloads Ready.. July 30, 2011, 07:17:am
New downloads are ready with the new server. Download links at alerter have been updated. Source is still same file as before (to prevent breaking build automation).

Everyone should update.. there are no changes in this version except the server address. The old version (1.0.0-3) will not be able to connect anymore.

Server moved.. July 29, 2011, 10:25:pm
VF moved around some servers yesterday and the one running the VF Desktop software is now at a different address, so you won't be able to connect.

I'm making new releases today with the updated address..

VF Desktop 1.0 Released! July 13, 2011, 12:29:am
After some though, I've rename VFIM to VF Desktop as it better reflects it's purpose (a desktop companion for Vampirefreaks).

v1.0 is now out, which embeds the FlashChat from the site and fixes bugs from the last release.

You can see more info and download it from the alerter profile page.

As always, bugs, feature requests etc. are welcome.

PS: Yes, I am working on integrating the Chat Bar IM in a future version.

New release (RC2) finally ready! June 24, 2011, 01:46:am
Just in time for the weekend, a new updated release of VFIM (the new Alerter).

There's tons of bug fixes and new features including:
  • Major updates to the theme manager
    • Create a new theme based on an existing one
    • Export a theme in the new .vft file format for easy uploading and sharing.
    • Menu item to easily access the folder where a theme is actually stored (for easy editing).
    • "Add Theme" now uses the new .vft files instead of a theme folder.
    • Theme files can now use color aliases throughout, making it much easier to manage colors.
  • Added 'Connect' and 'Disconnect' buttons in the log window.
  • Links in chats are now clickable (opens your default browser).
  • Added support for instant alerts (Inbox / Comments - you will be alerted the instant someone posts one).
  • Improved Privacy Controls.
  • Friends List can now show actual user icons and status message!
  • "Set Status" now also sets your status message on the website, not only within VFIM.
  • Improved dropped connection handling and other keep-alive improvements (less disconnects!)
  • Improved authentication on the server side.
  • .. lots of small bug fixes and enhancements.

There is also a new "Whos Online" window, and although the client side is done, the server side is still being finished. Once this is ready, it will start working, you wont need to update again.

There's now a short tutorial on making your own theme, all you need to know is CSS (the same way you build profiles here on the site) - so if you're creative, why not have a go at designing a theme for a band or cult on VF? You can read the tutorial here.

Downloads are available for:

I'm working on 64 bit builds for Fedora and Ubunto. The Windows version works on 64 bit Win7, thanks to BloodyJuiceBox for testing.

Bugs should be reported here.
Feature requests go here.
