"I like the prince who was reading a book when the executioner touched him on the shoulder telling him that it was time, and he, arising, laid a papercutter between the pages to keep his place and closed the book." - Djuna Barnes

About Me

My name is Connor and I'm a writer of experimental Gothic... "Gothic Funk" to be precise.

My novel Hungry Rats -- a Gothic noir involving religious fanatics, dying industrial cityscapes, and homicidal lumberjacks -- has been published by the Gothic Funk Press. They have helped me put together a few videos to promote the novel.

My fiction has been published in the Santa Clara Review, Moria Poetry Zine, the Dick Pig Review, the Flint Broadside, and the Saturnine Detractor, and my plays have been performed at the University of Chicago’s University Theater and, once upon a time, at Flint Youth Theatre. I am the also the editor-in-chief of the Paramanu Pentaquark arts journal, a cofounder of the Gothic Funk Nation, and a contributor to the bkish literary blog.

I am also a Catholic Socialist from Flint, Michigan. I have lived in Chicago and New York City, and am a founding member of the Gothic Funk Nation. I have a wonderful wife, and became a father less than a month ago.

Dislikes
Fallacy: Writers should show, not tell.
Correction: In fiction, telling is sometimes better than showing. A good example is David Bradley's The Chaneysville Incident

Fallacy: Every story needs a beginning, middle, and end.
Correction: Some stories do not. A good example is La Maison de Rendezvous by Alain Robbe-Grillet.

Also, I hate the songs Loveshack, YMCA, and Roxanne. I have heard them too often, and they piss me off.

Finally, I dislike closed-mindedness and bigotry.
