Biography
Era Nocturna was founded in 1999 by Dae Noctem an enigmatic woman who was born of two warriors. As the project's creator and sole member, Dae sought to fulfill a need for emotional exorcism via creative expression. Her songwriting, a seamless interweaving of fantasy and reality, the organic and the ethereal, the dark and the light, reflected this with strong melodies and personal lyrics. The release of the band's first album, "Prelude," in 2002, reverberated with listeners, sometimes profoundly. With the release of the neo-classical electronic "De Profundis" in 2006, and then the creative triumph "Lackluster" in 2009, Era Nocturna found a core base of listeners and loyal fans, becoming a mainstay of the underground electro-goth scene. Among these was the celebrated goth and post-punk writer and icon Mick Mercer, who included the band in his 2009 primer "Music to Die For."
In addition to writing and producing her own music, Dae has enjoyed successful collaborations with a range of other artists, including Heavenly Creatures and Finkster. Era Nocturna was also included in "The Fog presets Silence", a compilation album to benefit people in need in the goth scene, a cause Dae feels very strongly about. With the reward of so many incredible experiences achieved through Era Nocturna, Dae was satisfied but not complacent. She knew there was more ahead. Thinking of the future of the band, a new path opened to her. An expansion of her original concept began, setting the stage for the next phase of Era Nocturna.
Dae tore herself away from her self-imposed isolation and began searching the darkness for others. Kindred souls who understood her vision and were of similar mind. Those who would join her in shaping the future of Era Nocturna. After a long and lonely search, she found the ones she'd been seeking. At the close of 2010, the next incarnation of the band was born.
Ereka Watson traveled west from unknown origins with a bass in hand to round out the trio. Shaun and Dae are still trying to figure out Ereka's background but the thunder that Watson's bass creates stunned them too much to ask further questions.
Born of the union of a vampire and a demon, Shaun Sloat brings more than 2 decades of experience as a drummer to the band. Shaun has explored a variety of musical landscapes throughout his career, from rock and metal, to jazz, classical, and everything in between, including an ill-fated stint in a polka band. As he tells it, "I was trying to spread evil and chaos, and all these guys wanted to do was sing songs about beer." He is excited to join the ranks of Era Nocturna.
A project that began as the solitary journey of 1 is now the mission of 3. Created in recordings made in the near emptiness of a quiet room will come alive in front of audiences as Era Nocturna takes the stage for the first time ever. The year 2011 marks the continuation of a decade of hard work as well as a begining, for the band and fans alike.
