DieselDragon's Profile:
Hail All! :-)As ye may be able to see, I've spent a whole day tinkering around with my profile and have managed to "individualise" it a bit.
Sadly there are a few niggling problems at the moment (Can't seem to get my profile to "dock" with the top of the page, and vertical sizing is a bit hit-and-miss at this point) but hopefully I'll be able to find ways of resolving these issues at a later date. :-)
Many thanks to
DaxAra for the initial idea, and for letting me poach some very useful CSS code off of his page! :-)
Testing:
I've just tested this in a few different screen resolutions using FireFox, and it plays well in 1024x768 and up. There are a few glitches in lower resolutions (640x480 isn't really advised! :-D) but on the whole it should be fine. :-)
Apologies in advance to IE users as the CSS probabally looks messed up to you, but that's more due to Microsoft's refusal to make IE compliant with the industry standard for CSS and CSS-2. :-)
Anyway...Unlike the majority of VF users, I am more of a MetalHead than anything else, but I do have my decidedly Goth side, and a lot of Goth friends too. I go up
Slimelight some weekends to socialise, enjoy myself, and to get intoxicated of course! :-D
Other than that, my life is generally a laid-back one. Thanks to employment issues (I.E: Hardly anyone seems to want to employ me for some reason!) I am currently out of work and seeking a half-decent job in the rail industry, or anywhere else that I may just about "fit-in". Following a friends recommendation (Cheers Greg! :-D) I've recently started making Chainmail as a hobby, and might possibly take it up as a means of income as well, if it's likely to work out.
I've joined VF to allow me to socialise with like minded people, and find drinking buddies for those long nights down Slimes. The main reason for me joining however is to try and find my "Mr/Mrs Right". It could be said that I'm a true romantic in many ways, and all I need to make my life complete is to have someone special within my life...Someone to hold, to care for, to love...Whether or not I'll find that special person here is uncertain, but at the same time there can be no harm in trying! :-)
Sadly, it would appear that (Like just about everywhere else I can be found online!) I can't find much time for profile updating as things stand at the moment, as I have a lot of stuff on the go. However, this profile is not "Dead" by any means, but until things get a little less heavy around here, updates will be sporadic at best. :-(
I have to admit that of late, I've mainly been using a certain (And more mainstream) website in my futile attempts to find love, but in all honesty I'm finding that this other website is a complete pile of s***. Most people on there are only there for one-night stands as opposed to finding true love, and indeed the entire site itself is run entirely on a very shallow principle; The "beautiful people" get what they want, everyone else can but try their luck! :-(
In future, I shall try and log in here as - Unlike the other website that I mention - VampireFreaks is actually worth bothering with! :-)
Interests:Norse history:
When it comes to visualising who/what I would like to be, I have always looked up to the Vikings. Not only were they one of the most adaptable races in human history, but they were also the best Mariners, had the largest trade network of the Classical World (From the Americas to Asia Minor), and most importantly, were some of if not the strongest and most fearsome Warriors ever recorded by history!
My interest in the Norse people and their history extends mainly to casual research of their way of life, Lore, and my partial adherance to AsatrĂº Paganism. Someday I hope to start taking part in Battle re-enactments with the Regia Anglorum to further this interest, cash-flow depending.
Medieval history:
Moving along a few hundred years brings us to the age of the Knights of King Arthur, Camelot, and many other legends that feature Dragons, Maidens and Kings. (As well as assorted National Lottery bits and bobs! :-)
Although life in the Medieval era was nothing like that described in the many takes of legend, life in those times was still more pleasant than it is today...And I for one would go back to those times if I could. Sadly that isn't exactly possible with current technology, but having seen and toured most of Edward I's chain of fortresses in North Wales I have been given the impression that the Middle Ages was a much better time to live in than our own.
Engineering:
I've always loved tinkering with just about anything that is complex in it's design, and designing things that would push the laws of physics to extremes if ever they were constructed. Whether it's mechanical, electrical, structural or software engineering, I've always got some handy (Albeit completely crazy) ideas or inventions to apply to them - Many of which inspired by long nights of listening to various Rammstein albums! :-)
Some of the wacky inventions that have spawned forth from my recent dreams include:
- Very high speed (1,500+ mph) trains, capable of covering London to Aberdeen in 15 minutes,
- Single-span steel girder bridge connecting Aberystwyth and Dublin,
- Conversion of a Boeing 747-400 to run on a Diesel-hydraulic drive system insted of crappy and wasteful jet engines,
- Car capable of running on both roads (Up to 100mph) and railway lines (Up to 175mph) - A domestic variant of the UNIMOG,
- A computer operating system with the simplicity of Windows, the stability of Linux, and the security of UNIX. Capable of being installed and running effectively on even the oldest and slowest of computers.
Alas, my Engineering role is mainly as an "Imagineer" as I can visualise much more than I can actually create. Hopefully in the future, I may be able to learn enough to bring some of these dreams to life! :-)
Dislikes:Chavs:
This really goes without saying in the VampireFreaks community...After all, who on this site actually likes Chavs? :-D
I will avoid "tarring everyone with the same brush" and say that not all Chavs are bad...I know of a couple who are actually friendly and considerate people (They are mainly Chav by dress preferance and lifestyle) who don't have a single ASBO between them. Sadly though, most Chavs are complete and total w***ers by nature, and it goes without saying that the majority are best avoided.
MySpace:
Anyone who uses the Internet nowadays probabally has a MySpace account - Indeed I will confess that even I have one, although it's only there as a pointer to my own website. I don't have a problem with the concept or running of MySpace by any means, but in my opinion the site will never be a good one until they find a way to deal with seriously over cluttered user pages that take half an hour to load up even on a 10Mb broadband connection!
I currently have a project in mind for my own version of MySpace. Unlike the current version however, this one would take the form of a free and easy to download/use software package that allows the user to create their own website on their own terms. Thereby ensuring that user coding errors don't bring everyone else's sites down along with their own, and also meaning that users would only have themselves to blame if their website takes an unreasonable time (Over 90 seconds) to load.
A bonus of this would be less advertisements too - These would depend entirely on the webhost that the user choses to host their site upon! :-)
Musical Interests:My favourite genres of music are quite varied, although I have always had a preferance for the more extreme end of music. My favourite genres (In approximate order) are:
- Black Metal (BAL-SAGOTH, Moonsorrow),
- Traditional Metal (Stormwarrior, Man O' War, Iron Maiden),
- Thrash Metal (Bolt Thrower, Kreator),
- Power/Melodic Metal (Nightwish, Blind Guardian),
- Death Metal (Cannibal Corpse, The Bezerker),
- Industrial Goth (Rammstein),
- Traditional Goth (Sisters of Mercy, Cradle of Filth),
- General Alternative (Prodigy),
- German rave/techno (Odd of me, I know! :-O)
