In 2006 in Cincinnati, Ohio Andy Biersack formed the band Black Veil Brides. The name of the band came from the Catholic image of the nun “marrying” God and wearing the black veil. Andy modeled the band after classic “rock star” bands such as KISS and Motley Crue. He says that he wanted a modern day version of those bands that had lyrics which resonated more with today’s youth. His major influences when starting the band were KISS, Motley Crue, Alkaline Trio, and Metal. He says he “wanted to combine all those things.” And in so doing, Black Veil Brides was born. Andy wants the band to be a symbol for all the youth who get picked on or teased because they are different, or they’re a misfit (this applies to adults too). Black Veil Brides members know what it’s like to be different and they will hold the flag to show that you shouldn’t care what other people think about you, because you should be able to be who you are without repercussions. That being a misfit isn’t such a bad thing and that you can be successful by just being who you are and doing what makes you happy. That is the focus of Black Veil Brides and the reason they are so in sync with their fans.
