ABOUT ME
My name is Blair; not like the town, not like the witch movie and not like the actress. It means "plain or field full of flowers", though I am neither plain nor do I tend to be flowery. I'm 23 and currently reside in the Kansas City metro.

I recently graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor's degree in developmental psychology and a minor in sociology. I have a strong passion for children as well as the social sciences in the broadest of senses.

I joined VF in the late Spring of 2004 after stalking some of the older members for a while. Since then I have had a variety of usernames, though Pallidity is the one that I have stuck with the longest. I used to pay for a premium membership but once I hit college I realized that $20 was better spent on Ramen and Spaghetti versus an account type that hadn't been udpated in years. Since then my participation on the site has dwindled due to the seeming lack of educated people. Most people don't seem particularly interested in talking unless it involves ratings and/or picture comments and that makes me sad.

CHATTING
On that note, I would love to have a conversation with you, but I have a few things for you to keep in mind if you should attempt to strike anything up with me:

-> I will not talk to you about your conspiracy theories or other such things. They are NOT related to the social sciences and trying to seem like you understand the social sciences by conversing about them is a quick way to bore me.
-> While I have a degree in psychology, that does NOT mean that I am in love with Freud and feel that every male wants to sleep with his mom or that every female wants a penis. Developmental psychology is very different than Freud's psychoanalytic psychology. Beyond developmental psych, I ascribe a lot to the behaviorists. Please don't attack me based on your assumptions that all psychologists love Freud. I do not see him as a credible psychologist and only give him any respect because, without him, psychology might not exist in the sense it does today.
-> I don't like people that type lyke dis or that make grandiloquent and/or nonsensical endeavors at parley. Such attempts make you seem like you are a blind four-year-old without fingers or a basement-living pervert that is trying to seem more intelligent than he is by using a thesaurus every three or four words. Avoid those two behaviors and all will be hunky-dory.
-> I don't think of myself as better than anyone, nor do I think of myself as being less of a person than anyone. Treat me with the same respect and you and I will have a great time chatting.

LIKES/DISLIKES
I hate adding these sections on profiles because...well who really cares? However, I realize that preferences are a great way to strike up conversation so I've included them.

+ Music! Favorite artists include The Birthday Massacre, Tapping The Vein, Eluevitie, Silversun Pickups, The White Stripes and A Perfect Circle
+ Television! My favorite show that is currently running is Dexter but I've also enjoyed The United States of Tara, The Tudors, Ghost Whisperer, Star Trek (particularly TNG), Farscape, Daria and Freaks and Geeks
+ Movies! Wristcutters: A Love Story and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are two of my favorites, but I enjoy Hard Candy, Party Monster, Paranormal Activity, Wall-E and just about any gorey and/or horror based movie (low budget, high budget or somewhere in between)
+ Books! I've read most of Philippa Gregory's series on royalty, most of Anne Rice's novels and the Harry Potter series. I also really like the horror, suspense and thriller genres.

- People who flaunt their drug habits don't appeal to me. Being addicted to a substance is not worth bragging about, it is something that you need help with.
- I don't like the morning nor do I like warm, sunny weather. I'd prefer the world to be in the constant state of foggy, drizzly, 50-degree twilight.
- Religion, religious beliefs that are forced upon others, and the belief in a higher power all seem silly to me. I look forward to when humanity outgrows it all.
- Sexism and the idea that women are all "crazy bitches" or that they should be in the kitchen irritates me. Conversely, I don't think that women should have more rights than men, nor that the two genders should be treated equally in ALL situations.
- Prejudice, for whatever reason, and no matter how justified the stereotype, typically grates on my nerves.
- Dictatorships that prevent their people from voicing their desires and opinions lack appeal.
- The presumption that all Americans are fat, lazy and loud is a very strong point of contention. Not all are uneducated, not all agree to the various conflicts and wars that America has engaged in, not all support close entanglement between religion and government, not all wield a gun, not all wear cowboy hats and not all prefer to get in wild bar fights and take their clothes off for some stupid reality show.

NOTE
I'm on Facebook nearly all the time if I'm online. It's the best way to get a hold of me.
