I'm Rachael. No, I'm not a vampire or a freak. And neither are you.
I spend too much time on the internet, though I sit here anyway, and not enough time sleeping, though I stay up anyway. I'm fond of music, tea, books, history, dance, travel, and warmth. I like the curious and the absurd, though I have little tolerance for the supernatural, as absurd as it is to me. Third generation atheist on both sides of the family here, sorry. I do, however, like a good mystery, and I enjoy fierce debate on the issues that matter, as well as the issues that don't. Mostly the issues that don't.
I'm studying art history at York, so do say hello if you're around and about, or just if you're into art history too; there aren't too many of us, it seems. I'm fascinated by art of the fin de siecle in particular, though I have a general love for post-impressionism and early modernism too. Unsurprisingly, I also like late nineteenth century literature, especially the really stereotypical stuff in which rich young aristocrats or clever young members of the bourgeoisie aren't quite sure of who they actually are. Y'know the type. And I like Angela Carter; she's magic in the only sense of the word that I can deal with.
Fusion bellydance ought to get a mention here, considering it's been one of my biggest passions for over half a decade now. My main sources of inspiration are Rachel Brice, Sharon Kihara, Zoe Jakes, Mardi Love, The Uzume, Samantha Emanuel and, last but not least, Zafira, pictured below:
Music? To name just a few...
Dead Can Dance This Mortal Coil Depeche Mode Kate Bush Joy Division Amon Tobin Talk Talk Pretentious, Moi? La Mar Enfortuna The Toids The Chameleons And Also the Trees Radiohead Cocteau Twins Nick Drake Corpus Delicti Fields of the Nephilim
And The Sisters. Always. I've a bit of a thing for that Eldritch fellow. If you know what I mean, you're my kind of person. Contact me, do.
I also enjoy a fair bit of early and classical music, various electronic genres and good old rock 'n' roll nonsense. I listen to quite a lot of odd stuff, actually; you can take a look for yourself here.
